Editors note: The Cape and Islands NPR Station provided the following.

WCAI, The Cape and Islands NPR Station will premiere an hour-long program, Bird News with Vern Laux and Mindy Todd, this Saturday at 11a.m.

The new program builds on the success of The Point with Mindy Todd’s popular Bird News feature – a monthly, half-hour call-in segment with Todd and Laux. The new, hour-long Bird News program will air at 11a.m. on the first Saturday of every month. Laux is the resident naturalist with the Linda Loring Nature Foundation and a regular contributor to WCAI.

According to the U.S. Fist and Wildlife Service, one in five Americans identify themselves as birders. Bird News will provide Cape and Islands birders the opportunity to participate in a more thorough discussion about the active world of birds in this community.

“From learning about diverse species, migration and breeding behavior, to identifying the bird at the backyard feeder, birds are an endless source of fascination and enjoyment,” said Laux. “I’m excited to be a part of what promises to be an entertaining and informative program for the whole family.”

Got bird questions? Bird stories you’d like to share? Join Vern and Mindy for an hour of Bird News on the first Saturday of every month beginning February 2 at 11a.m.
