Monday, August 6, at Cotuit: Falmouth finished off its away schedule with a visit to Cotuit on Monday. After surrendering a run in the bottom of the first, the Commodores surged to the lead with a three-run second, thanks to a bases-clearing double by Coty Blanchard. The Kettleers tied it in the next inning, only to see Falmouth go back on top with a run in the fourth. Three more in the top of the sixth appeared to ice it for Falmouth, but Cotuit battled back again, with one in the sixth, and a game-changing four runs in the seventh. The Cotuit bullpen was too strong to allow another swing in momentum, and Falmouth dropped the back-and-forth battle, 8-7.

Tuesday, August 7, versus Cotuit: The Kettleers spoiled Falmouth's home closer, jumping out early and tacking on throughout the game. By the time Falmouth scored its first runs—on a two-run homer by Jake Rodriguez in the third—Cotuit already had five. The Kettleers added runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh, while Falmouth could manage only one more, on a sacrifice fly by Austin Anderson in the seventh. Falmouth closed out its regular season, and stumbled into the playoffs, with a 9-3 loss.

Thursday, August 9, at Wareham: The Commodores began their first-round playoff matchup with the Gatemen by finding themselves on the wrong end of a laugher. Wareham's offensive attack was steady and strong, while Falmouth's was barely present. Michael O'Neill hit a solo homer run in the sixth, the only run the Commodores would score. Normally dependable starter Trey Masek took the loss, surrendering all seven of Wareham's runs in his six innings of work, and Falmouth returned home to Guv Fuller Field on the brink of elimination.

Saturday, August 11, versus Wareham: Weather pushed game two of the series back to Saturday, and, after it was over, Falmouth may have wished it had gone on raining all week. The Commodores more than doubled their deficit from game one, losing a homer-happy slugfest, 20-7, to end their 2012 season. Wareham led wire to wire, scoring three in the top of the first, resting up for a few innings, then knocking out starter Sean Hagan and ripping the Falmouth bullpen to tatters.

The offensive onslaught—which included nine home runs, two of them grand slams—was a fitting symbol of the highly offensive 2012 Cape League season. Falmouth's seven runs would have been almost certain to secure a win in any other year, but on this day in 2012, they were exactly one-third of enough.

The Cape League playoffs continue, sans Commodores, this afternoon and evening, with Orleans meeting Yarmouth-Dennis for the Eastern Division pennant, and Bourne taking on Wareham for the flag in the West. Depending on how quickly those three-game affairs wrap up, the championship series will begin on either Wednesday or Thursday.
