This Sunday, the Falmouth Dog Park will hold its second annual Doggie Pool Party, inviting neighborhood dogs of all sizes and breeds to cool off by splashing around in kiddie pools.
“Last year’s pool party was a big hit,” says Pamela Rothstein of the Dog Park Committee. “[We] were amazed by the turnout and enthusiasm. It was a lot of fun for both dogs and people and especially fun to witness how different dogs used the pools. We are repeating the event so that more people and dogs can enjoy the fun and meet other dog park users.”
According to Rothstein, last year’s event was a result of that summer’s oppressive heat. Since this summer has so far been even hotter, a repeat pool party was a natural.
“The inspiration was simple,” she says. “Last summer was hot, dogs were hot, and those of us with dogs understood that many (but not all) dogs enjoy sitting and splashing in kiddie pools.”
When asked who had the most fun at last year’s event, the dogs or their owners, Rothstein says, “As usual at the park, both! Plus, onlookers. This is a fun event even for non dog owners. However, I would caution that it would not be wise for young children to be in the park with so much activity. For them, I would recommend viewing from outside the fence.”
The event will also be a good chance to meet the people responsible for creating and operating the park, and air any questions or suggestions visitors might have.
“ Members of the Dog Park Committee will be present to answer questions and hear feedback about the park, which opened in May 2012,” Rothstein says. “They will also have dog park merchandise for sale, including t-shirts, hats, and magnets.”
The pool party kicks off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, and lasts until 3. The Falmouth Dog Park is located on the north side of Brick Kiln Road, between Sandwich Road and Gifford Street, right across the street from Brick Kiln Farm.
