Shh: Falmouth police don't want to hear your loud motorcycle.

If you're planning to take your motorcycle out this weekend, Falmouth Police Capt. Douglas DeCosta has an advisory for you:

The Falmouth Police Department is using Memorial Day weekend to remind motorists of the ongoing Vehicle Noise Abatement Education Campaign—Operation Pipe Down.

The campaign includes tips on how to avoid a ticket in Falmouth: Muffle the Noise, Shift to Silence, and Turn Down the Sound.

If an operator does not call attention to themselves with unreasonable noise, then they won’t get a ticket from the Falmouth Police Department.

As motorists cross through the intersection of Palmer Avenue (Route 28) and Jones Road in the center of town they will be greeted with an LED Highway Display sign bearing the words “Reduce Vehicle Noise, Avoid a Ticket.”

Officers will also be patrolling the town, including the area of the sign, for operators who have chosen not to “reduce the noise.”

Operation Pipe Down’s primary goal is education; however officers will address enforcement issues if necessary.

The outreach includes an informational brochure and website information at www.falmouthpolice.us.
