2) Believe Inspire Grow, a new women's networking group, holds its first meeting today, at Bleu restaurant in Mashpee Commons. Stop by between 9 and 11 a.m. to make some new friends and valuable connections, and have a little fun. This “sorority for grownups” is always looking for new members. For more information, call (508) 539-7907, text (774) 392-5754, email CapeCodBIG@groups.facebook.com, or visit www.believeinspiregrow.com.

3) Celebrate Friday with Monday Morning Painters at the Falmouth Arts Center, an exhibit of plein air pieces by members of the Artists Guild. While you're there, you can also take in Celebrate Buzzards Bay, an exhibit of local artists' impressions of the bay and its watershed. The center is open between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. For more on either exhibit, call (508) 540-3304, email director@falmouthart.org, or visit http://www.falmouthart.org.

4) The Falmouth Senior Center hosts a full day of activities. The Patchwork Quilters of Cape Cod hold their weekly meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., inviting anyone with quilting experience to help them make quilts for children at risk. For more, call (508) 548-4003. At 1 p.m., seniors can choose either Chess—open to players of all skill levels—or Tap Dancing Class, an excellent way to sneak in some exercise while learning a new hobby. 5) This day in history: the first use of a submarine in warfare occurs, when the American Turtle attacks the British ship Eagle in New York Harbor (1776); the blitz of London begins, with the first of 57 consecutive German bombing raids (1940); and hip-hop artist Tukac Shakur is fatally shot (1996).
