Dave Robbins will be recognized Thursday at the Cape and Islands American Red Cross 11th Annual Heroes breakfast.

The following was provided by the Cape and Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Chaplain Dave Robbins is a former prison inmate who has used his experience and his deep Christian faith to serve others for many years. Not only is he Chaplain of the Barnstable County Correctional Facility but he also founded Solid Rock Ministries to reach those in need of guidance, faith and love. He offers extensive one-on-one meetings, group Bible studies and church services within the jail itself. Dave estimates he has delivered the gospel message to more than 1,500 inmates through these activities. He also provides ministering and supportive contact with former inmates.

Keenly aware that housing is the most critical factor in helping former inmates initially transition to freedom and remain crime and substance-free, he recently opened a sober home in Falmouth for recently discharged inmates called Discipline House.

“Chaplain Dave is an example of how someone gives back to the community time and time and again and is a true role model for people who need guidance and leadership from someone who has been where they are,” said Hilary Greene, Executive Director of the Cape Cod & Islands Chapter of the Red Cross. “He is truly a hero to hundreds of people and continues to give selflessly to others. We wanted to honor that at our Heroes Breakfast.”

The Cape Cod & Islands Heroes Breakfast, which will be held on April 4th, 2013 is the only event of its kind: it recognizes heroes throughout our community who perform extraordinary acts of courage by saving someone’s life, helping in the rescue of someone in need, or who has committed countless hours of service to an organization or community.

No other event highlights ordinary citizens doing extraordinary things- regardless of the organization or community they serve- and informs us of these amazing people who make Cape Cod such a special place to live. This event, which has sold out almost every year, has more than 500 people in attendance and receives enormous media coverage due to its special nature.
