The 93-foot tugboat Justice ran aground at around midnight off Wareham in the Cape Cod Canal Thursday, according to the Cape Cod Times.
Authorities closed the canal Thursday morning while crews worked to cleanup the spill.
Officials are now evaluating environmental concerns, including wildlife such as shorebirds. So far no oiled birds have been reported.
The Staten Island based Reinauer Transportation Cos. owns the tugboat and is working with Coast Guard officials as well as an environmental company to cleanup the spill.
