Winslow Weeks, 78, told police he snapped before knocking down a relative and hitting the victim with a rock Thursday, according to the Cape Cod Times. Weeks allegedly told police that times are tough and that the economy sucks.

Weeks allegedly went outside with his relative to check out an owl Thursday at about 7:30 p.m. when he knocked the individual down and grabbed for a loose rock from a retaining wall. Weeks was unable to pick up the rock because it was too heavy, but it fell on his relative’s head.

Weeks was arraigned in Falmouth District Court Friday and was released on $1,000 bail. He was charged with assault and battery on a person who is disabled or over 60, domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault to murder. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled March 18, 2013.
